There’s a lot to take care of before moving into a new property, from packing your old house to arranging your new power supply.

  1. Compare energy plans
  2. Compare NBN plans or other broadband options
  3. Book your connection and disconnection date (you may need to pay a power connection fee)
  4. Book your removalists

Make sure your meter is in off position as soon as you arrive at your new property – if your electricity meter is switched on, your new connection could be delayed.

For more information and advice about preparing for your move, read our Moving House Hints and Tips.

Your electricity meter needs to be in the off position for your new supplier to complete the power connection. If it is not in the correct position, your new electricity connection may fail, leaving you without power in your new home.

You can check with your real estate provider to confirm the location of your electricity and gas meter. You can read more about locating and reading your property’s meters here: How to take a meter reading when moving home electricity and gas.

To find your meter type you can contact Move-In Connect or talk to your real estate agent. They can help you identify if your meter is analogue or digital.

There are two main types of electricity meters in Australia:

  • Analogue
  • Smart meter

There are also two types of gas meters:

  • Digital meters

Yes you can change. You need to contact your energy retailer or distributor. There may be a power connection fee payable for the upgrade to your meter.

You need to inform your energy retailer about life support. They will register your device to make sure you are notified of any planned outages. You should also consider a back up generator or power supply.

If your life support equipment also relies on an internet connection, make sure you inform your internet provider so that they can also provide a backup option, such as a 4G connection.

Please call Move-In Connect to get your electricity and gas, broadband NBN, mobile and other services connected.
