H3: Data limit
It is common for internet plans to include unlimited data, particularly NBN or 5G connections. This gives you peace of mind that you won’t exceed your data limit and have to pay for excess data charges. However, if your internet usage is particularly low, you could save money with a mobile data plan with a data limit.
Use the guide below to help calculate how much data you need on your plan.
- Streaming services for movies and shows – approx 1GB per hour (up to 7 GB per hour for 4K)
- Music streaming services – approx 140 MB per hour
- Working from home – up to 20 GB per file download
- Social Media – approx 180 MB per hour
- Voice and Video calls – approx 36 MB per hour
A Move-In Connect internet expert can help you decide on the right data limit for your budget and internet needs.
Connection type: NBN vs 5G
The fastest internet types in Australia are the NBN connections and 5G home internet plans. For cheaper options, you can also choose a mobile plan or ADSL connection, but these have limited functionality compared to the NBN and 5G alternatives. The connection type you can choose depends on what is available in your area.
- Can my home get NBN plans NSW?
Most areas of NSW, including regional and rural areas can now be connected to the NBN. There are seven different types of NBN connection technologies that affect the NBN speed tiers you can reach in your plan. You can read more about the difference between the different NBN technologies, including fixed line and wireless options, here: What Are The Different NBN Connection Types
- Is 5G better than NBN for internet plans NSW?
5G is a great high-speed alternative to the NBN for your home internet needs. Because it is a newer technology, it is not yet as widely available as the NBN, however, you can get 5G for your home in Sydney and some large regional areas such as Wagga Wagaa, Griffith, Orange and Mildura.

H3: Bundle Broadband Deals NSW
To get the best deal on your internet, we will help you find a bundle deal. You can bundle your NBN or 5G plan with your mobile phone, landline or Foxtel deal. There are also some energy companies that offer NBN bundles to help you save.
H3: Contract type
Be way of plans with a very low monthly cost – often it means you will be locked into a lengthy contract with a hefty exit fee if you need to cancel your plan.
If you are confident you will need your plan for the next 24 to 36 months, a fixed-term contract will help save you money and often has added benefits such as a free modem and $0 set up as well as a lower monthly rate. However, if you want the flexibility to change plans when you need to, a flexible contract includes no exit fees and the option to switch providers without penalties if you are moving home or looking for a cheaper deal.
