Buyers agent referral program

You found the house. Finish the job.

Your clients pay for a service that removes friction from buying. Leaving them to sort out power, gas and internet is the one loose end in an otherwise complete engagement.

This page covers how the buyers agent referral program works, what it earns, how it handles remote purchases and how disclosure fits your independence.

The moment it happens

Once the purchase is unconditional

The buyers agent referral program starts once a purchase is unconditional: you hand over the connection in your closing pack, and we arrange every service, even remotely.

  1. Step 1Purchase goes unconditionalThe engagement is nearly complete
  2. You are hereStep 2You add it to the closing packOne line, one link
  3. Step 3We call the clientWherever they live
  4. Step 4Access arranged if neededFor clients who cannot attend
  5. Step 5Commission paid monthlyItemised per client

An unconditional purchase gives enough lead time for gas, which is slower than electricity, and for any access arrangements the property needs. We contact the client, compare the panel for the new address and have electricity and gas arranged together for settlement, so the engagement finishes complete rather than almost complete for the people who hired you to find their home.

It becomes part of the buyers agent client handover, alongside the keys, the settlement details and the contacts you already pass on.

Built for interstate and sight-unseen purchases

A material share of buyer's agent clients buy interstate or without ever inspecting the property. They cannot attend a connection appointment or easily work out who their distributor is, which is where the handover is worth the most.

  • Identity checks and access handled on the call
  • Distributor and cut-off times worked out for them
  • Everything booked for the day they arrive
Commission

What this is actually worth to you

You earn an agreed commission on each service that connects for a client you refer, paid monthly per completed connection, alongside your fee.

A utility connection service for buyers agents pays on connections that complete, not on referrals made. Client numbers are small, but each client usually connects several services, so per-client value is higher than the referral count suggests.

Your client is never charged, which keeps the arrangement separate from the fee they pay you. They pay only their chosen retailer's advertised rates, and every retailer on the panel remains subject to consumer protections overseen by the Australian Energy Regulator (checked September 2026).

Commission is itemised per client each month, so it sits cleanly beside your own fee records for each engagement. The same commission basis applies across every partner type in the full partner program, whether you settle a few purchases a month or run a national buying team with clients buying in every state and territory.

What the estimator shows, and what it does not

The estimator at the top of this page treats each settled purchase as one move, assumes a conservative share connect, and applies two services at an indicative rate. Your real schedule comes in writing.

Services we offer your clients

Why partner with us

What you get, beyond the commission

Finishing the engagement properly matters more to a buyer's agent than the commission, because the handover is what clients remember and recommend.

Buyers agent additional services work best when they complete what the client already paid for, rather than adding something new to sell.

Connections are the last practical step between an unconditional contract and a client who can actually live in the home, and most engagements stop just short of it.

Closes the last loose end

The engagement finishes complete rather than almost complete, and the client does not have to start a new round of calls the moment you hand over.

Settlement is rarely the end of the client's list, especially when they are moving from another state. Pointing them to a plain guide on what still needs organising after settlement rounds out your handover and shows the same care that secured them the right property at the right price in the first place.

Independent panel

More than 20 retailers are compared, which matters to a client who hired you precisely because you are independent. Explaining how the connection service works takes one sentence in your closing pack, and the client can see for themselves that no single retailer is being pushed at them.

Revenue on every settlement

Buyers agent partner program commission is paid monthly on every service that connects. Volumes are low, but each client connects several services, so the value per settlement adds up.

Remote purchases handled

Clients who cannot be on site are routine for us. Utility connections for buyers agent clients are arranged by phone, including identity checks and any access the property needs.

For a client relocating from another state, the practical question is whether the power will be on when they arrive. Where the property has a smart meter, retailers can often connect electricity remotely without a technician visit, and where it does not, we arrange access so the client never needs to be there in person.

Partner types

The same model across partner types

Mortgage brokers

Most purchasers finance through a broker who is working to the same unconditional date and settlement timeline as you are. See how this works for mortgage brokers, so the broker's message and your closing pack point the client to one independent connection service instead of two separate ones.

Conveyancers

The conveyancer often sends a pre-settlement checklist in the same fortnight you are finalising the purchase for a remote client. Read how this works for conveyancers to agree who raises connections, so a client buying from another state is not chased twice about the same task.

Real estate agencies

On the other side of the deal, the selling agency may also offer the purchaser a connection service at exchange. Checking how this works for real estate agencies helps you explain to your client why an independent comparison is worth choosing, even when another offer arrives in the same week.

Referral disclosure

A commission arrangement generally has to be disclosed to your client under state agent conduct rules, and the exact requirement varies by state.

What we provide

The arrangement in writing with the commission schedule, plus disclosure wording for your client agreement.

What we won't do

Advise you on your obligations. This is general information, not legal advice.

How referral disclosure works for buyer's agents

Buyer's agents are licensed agents in most states and are engaged for independent advice, so be explicit that a commission arrangement exists and that the client is free to use any provider. In NSW, intermediaries who receive a commission or referral fee must take reasonable steps to make the consumer aware of it before acting, as NSW Fair Trading explains (checked September 2026).

Other states apply their own agent conduct rules, so confirm your obligations with your licensee. Presented as part of your buyers agent service offering and disclosed plainly in the client agreement, the arrangement sits alongside your fee without conflict.

Questions

What buyer's agents ask us

Remote buyers often ask when they should start, because they cannot see the property or meet a technician. A short explanation of connection timing before settlement answers that clearly, and it can go in your closing pack so the client books early and arrives to a home that is ready.

What services do buyers agents offer after purchase?

Most stop at settlement. Adding utility connection completes the handover, particularly for clients who bought interstate or without inspecting the property.

Can buyers agents earn referral commission?

Yes, subject to disclosure in line with your state's agent conduct rules and your client agreement.

Is this useful for interstate buyers?

It is most useful there. A client who has never been to the property or the state cannot easily work out who their distributor is or attend a connection appointment.

Does it compromise our independence?

No. We compare more than 20 retailers rather than being owned by one, which is consistent with an independent advisory position.

When should the referral happen?

Once the purchase is unconditional. That gives enough lead time for gas, which is slower than electricity.
